(AP Photo)Afghanistan defeat Australia: Australia’s first-ever defeat to Afghanistan in any form of international cricket has thrown open Group 1, which also includes India and Bangladesh, of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
The result also means that Australia will now have to defeat India, who are topping group 1 at the moment, in their final Super 8 match to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, England thrashed the USA by 10 wickets after chasing down a target of 115 in 9.4 overs on Sunday to become the first team to qualify for the semis.
The T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight stage commenced on June 19 with eight teams slotted across two groups in another round-robin format.
India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh formed Group 1 of the Super 8s while hosts West Indies, England, South Africa and the United States made up Group 2.
India defeated Bangladesh to climb on top of Group 1 on Friday, pipping Australia who will play Afghanistan on Sunday. South Africa on Friday raced on top of the Group 2 table with a win against England and USA on Thursday.

Where will the semifinals and final of the 2024 T20 World Cup be played?
The top two sides from each group qualify for the semifinals. The semifinals will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 26 and 27.
The final of the 2024 T20 World Cup will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.
