BMC launches weekend, fast-track marriage registration services for couples in Mumbai from Sept 21
While marriage registration was earlier restricted to weekdays, couples can now register on both Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm at the designated ward offices of the BMC.

(File) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that citizens will now be able to register their marriages on weekends, access a fast-track registration service during weekdays, and get their marriage certificate on the same day.
The civic body stated that the initiative has been introduced to simplify procedures and reduce delays that residents often face in completing marriage formalities.
“Both these services will start on Sunday, September 21, 2025. With these services, the marriage registration process will become faster and the number of registrations will increase,” said Sharad Ughade, Deputy Commissioner (Public Health).
While marriage registration was previously restricted to weekdays, the new decision allows couples to register on both Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm at designated ward offices.
On Saturdays, services will be available at 13 ward offices, including A, C, E, F South, G South, H East, K East, P South, P North, R Central, L, M West and S. On Sundays, the service will be provided at 12 ward offices, including B, D, F North, G North, H West, K West, P East, R South, R North, N, M East and T.
During weekdays, the civic body will also operate a fast-track marriage registration service. In every ward office, 20 per cent of the daily slots, amounting to 6 out of 30 registrations, will be reserved under this category. Couples who opt for this service and complete the required documentation, verification and fee payment will receive their certificate the same day.

Officials found that lack of time and the need for spouses and witnesses to appear in person during office hours were major reasons for delays or avoidance of registration.
Couples availing either the weekend or the fast track service will be required to pay the regular registration fee along with an additional amount of 2,500 rupees. The BMC clarified that the services will not be available on public holidays.
