If you win these kind of games, then we must be a special team. Everyone played really well. There is some improvement needed in batting. But we will work on that. Shaheen is a special player. He does what the team needs of him. Very happy for him. We were 15 runs short. The way we bowled up front, we will create pressure. We bowled well with the new ball. More often that not you will win games if you bowl like this. We have been fielding well. Shane has been working hard on us. We have been having extra sessions. Mike Hesson said if you can't field, you won't be in the team. We are a good enough team to beat anyone. We will come back on Sunday and try and do that.

As a batting unit, last two games we lost it. We did good work with the bowling unit. Yesterday also the batting cost us the game. I tried to take those chances. I tried to adjust to the captaincy. Our bowlers Rishad and then Saif with the bat. Unfortunately, we didn't support Saif much.
I will dedicate this award to my beautiful wife and son who are here. You need early breakthroughs. Those three overs made the difference in the powerplay. I was working on the slower ball. It came out well in the main time. Team decided I will go with Nawaz and Faheem behind me. I got two sixes and that gave us the momentum.
Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 11 runs to qualify for the final. It has been a superb performance from the Men in Green with the ball. Haris Rauf has been in top form in this tournament. However, it is Shaheen Shah Afridi who started the damage for Bangladesh, and the rest of the bowlers just capitalized on the initial work done. Also, a lot of damage was self-inflicted by Bangladesh; they threw away wickets and crumbled. It is going to be an India vs Pakistan final in the Asia Cup for the first time on Sunday. For now, that's it from us. Do join us for our liveblog for tomorrow, where India takes on Sri Lanka.
Now this is falling apart for Bangladesh. First, it was Shamim trying to scoop the ball against Shaheen and ended up giving a straight catch to fine-leg, and then Haris Rauf came into the attack and injured himself after taking the treatment. He slipped in a slower one to get rid of Tanzim, and as we update, Rauf picks up Taskin Ahmed. It is quicker this time. Bangladesh is nine down, what a comeback it has been from Pakistan in this game. They were done and dusted by all means in the first half, but they have delivered an inspiring bowling performance.
It is turning into a humdinger of a contest here. Bangladesh, with Shamim, is still fighting, and a lot will depend on him for both sides. The good thing is that the left-hander has played the situation unlike the other Bangladesh batters, who have tried to force the issue. Some of the shots from the batters have been quite surprising from both sides, while to some extent, Pakistan's batting is justifiable because they were setting a target, but from Bangladesh's perspective, chasing a small total, their shots were quite shocking to see, for lack of a better word. Well what do we know as we update Shamim falls.
Well, Saim Ayub has picked up Jaker Ali here. It was the action replay of Nurul Hassan earlier; it was a carrom ball, and Jaker Ali tried to clear the ropes and was holed out at long-off. This is turning out to be a poor chase from Bangladesh. When they won against Sri Lanka, there was quite a bit of method in the way they approached that chase yesterday, and today there has been no rhythm to the chase nor any efforts to build partnerships. Having said that, they are still in the game because of their exceptional bowling performance in the first innings.
Pakistan has used only one over of Faheem Ashraf and one over of Saim Ayub so far. They will need to complete those two overs at some point in this game. The longer Agha holds back those overs, Bangladesh will be more and more looking to target those three overs. As we update, Ayub has been brought, and as he has done plenty of times in this tournament, he has managed to pick a wicket. Nurul Hassan was delivered a carrom ball, which the batter hit straight to the long-off fielder. Bangladesh has lost half their side now.
The game is right in the balance here. Although Pakistan has picked up four wickets here, the advantage Bangladesh has here is that they know what they are chasing, unlike Pakistan, which had a target to set, which always forces them to take that extra risk. Shamim and Nurul here need to lay a foundation for the next 4-5 overs. Scoring at six would do, but losing a wicket will be quite detrimental to their winning this game. They also need to assess the bowlers they want to attack and whom they want to respect.
Pakistan has introduced both their spinners, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz, into the attack here. While Abrar has been quite superb in this tournament, Nawaz did not have much to do with the ball. Bangladesh has two batters in the middle who are quite opposite in their approach. One is Nurul Hassan, who is a bit flamboyant, and Mahedi is a bit more drop and run. Well, as we update, Mahedi tried to hit one over extra-cover and was caught on the boundary. Nawaz gets the breakthrough. Bangladesh is losing wickets continuously here.
There we go, since our last update, Bangladesh has lost two more wickets. First, it was Towid Hridoy who tried to play one through the leg-side, and the leading edge went to third man, and then it was Saif who went in a similar manner, but the catch only carried till the point fielder. Bangladesh has lost three wickets here in the power play, and they are in a lot of trouble. Both the Pakistan strike bowlers have picked wickets and have their tail up. Bangladesh needs a partnership here.
Saif has gotten another start here. Pakistan has to be wary of him. He is quite a wristy player, as he has shown already, and he has scored a couple of those shots for boundaries. One on the leg-side for a six and the other was cut through point for a boundary. It will be interesting to see if Salman Agha uses three overs of Shaheen Shah Afridi in this power play as the only way Pakistan can win this game is by picking wickets.
Well, Bangladesh had one box to tick in these initial overs, and they failed to do it. It was a short ball from Afridi which Emon tried to play a shot on the leg-side and got the top-edge, and the fine-leg fielder took a simple catch. Towhid Hridoy is the new batter in, and with the ball still moving around, it is going to be a bit of a challenge for the batter. Pakistan needs one more wicket in the powerplay, and we will have a humdinger of a game on our hands.
Saif Hassan and Parvez Emon are in the middle for Bangladesh. The only challenge they have in the middle is to see if this new ball spell from Shaheen Shah Afridi. If they can negate this spell, Bangladesh will be away and will be able to win this game quite comfortably.
Bangladesh (Playing XI): Saif Hassan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali(w/c), Nurul Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman
Pakistan (Playing XI): Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Salman Agha(c), Hussain Talat, Mohammad Haris(w), Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed
That is an underpar total for Pakistan; it is the lowest total they have defended against Bangladesh in the past, and they need to match it yet again. The bowling from Bangladesh has been quite superb. Rishad Hossain, especially in the middle overs, was quite magnificent. He was the destruction in chief alongside Taskin Ahmed. All the situation now demands is that Bangladesh keep its head and get over the line. After India, they seem to be the most sorted out bowling attack. If they get the runs, they will be the batting side too.
Bangladesh has done an exceptional job in the first innings here. Mohammad Nawaz is the latest one to fall, and Pakistan has somehow scraped their way to 124 here. So they must be getting to 130 from here on, which will give some hope for Pakistan. But Shaheen has to strike very early with the ball.
Mohammad Haris has fallen here. It was a caught and bowl from Mahedi Hassan. Pakistan has now lost seven wickets. It was looking like a nice partnership was brewing between Haris and Nawaz, but it was not to be so. That has been the story of the day for Pakistan. Well, just food for thought, Pakistan is in such a poor position after Bangladesh has dropped 2-3 catches in the field. If all of them were taken, we might have seen them getting bowled out under 100. Pakistan, after this tournament, needs to seriously work on its batting lineup.
Pakistan has four overs remaining, and they are on 94. Run a ball from here, it will take them around 120 runs. With Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Haris, who are quite capable batters in the middle, Pakistan will try to push to that 140, which will give them some sort of fighting chance in the 2nd innings. To all fairness, it should not be enough, but with Shaheen getting into some form in the previous game, they will be hoping to get a few early wickets, and that's how to put pressure on Pakistan.
The experiment to send Shaheen up the order has not worked here for Pakistan. He scored 19, which is a cameo of what he is capable of, but if Pakistan expected a bit more from him, they have been disappointed. It was a slower one from Taskin, which Shaheen skied in the air, and the catch has been taken. This is an awful batting performance from pakistan. While dropping both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for strike rates did seem like a sensible move at the time, the batting of this side has ended up spineless.
Well, there have been a few dropped catches here from Bangladesh, which should have been taken quite easily. Shaheen Afridi has been promoted up the order for Pakistan, which is quite a strange move. While Afridi can bat, not sending Mohammad Nawaz questions his role in the side. He has not even bowled in the last couple of games. While Pakistan's batting has been quite vulnerable, they have constantly chopped and changed the order. They are under serious threat of getting bowled out under 100 here.
We have reached the water break here, and it will be interesting to see how Pakistan will approach this innings from here on. They will need at least 70-80 runs to give themselves a chance. As we update, Mustafizur Rahman has picked up a wicket here. It is Salman Ali Agha who is the batter. The Bangladeshi seamer has been quite lethal in this stage of the innings, and he has picked up a wicket yet again here. Shaheen Shah Afridi has walked into the middle, and Pakistan are in danger of getting bundled out under 100.
Rishad Hossain has picked up the wicket of Talat here. It was a short wide one, and it could have been put away for a boundary, but it has been one of those days for Pakistan where Talat found the point fielder. Rishad has been quite pivotal in Bangladesh's bowling success yesterday, and so far, he has been quite pivotal today. Pakistan is in deep trouble, although their bowling has come into some sort of form in the previous game, if they don't put runs on the board today, that bowling will find it hard to be as penetrative as they were against Sri Lanka.
Fakhar Zaman has fallen here. Rishad Hossain tossed one up, and Fakhar played his shot slightly wider to the orthodox long-off region. The Bangladesh team seemed to have pre-planned that dismissal and expected Rishad to play that shot, and a fielder too was placed a bit wider from the traditional position. That is top-class planning from them. They have been quite superb with their bowling plans, and also were quite immaculate with their batting plans against Sri Lanka. Against India, the batting side faltered.
Fakhar and Salman Agha are the experienced lot in this lineup, and neither has had many contributions in this tournament. While Fakhar did blitz with a half-century in the tournament, Salman Agha has, time and again in this series, looked out of sorts. This is an opportunity in the knockout game for both to deliver. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has bowled quite superbly in the phase they have struggled in the last two games in this stage. From this situation, they would be hoping to restrict Pakistan to around 130-mark.
Saim Ayub has managed to pull off another duck here. It is his fourth duck in the tournament. Mahedi Hassan pitched one up, and Ayub, trying to hit the bowler over mid-on, ended up giving the catch to the fielder there. Pakistan has lost two wickets in the first couple of overs here. This is what Bangladesh needed to do yesterday; in fact, both the wicket-takers today did not play yesterday. This is a very good start from Bangladesh, they have shown they have the artillery to bowl the final overs in these conditions, and now that they have started well, it is very likely we might see Pakistan end with a below-par total.
Taskin Ahmed has started here for Bangladesh. He is a wicket-taker, the Bangladesh new ball bowler, and there were a few eyebrows raised when he did not play yesterday. As we update, Taskin has picked up Farhan. It was a short wide one, and the batter tried to cut the ball and ended up giving a straight catch to Rishad Hossain at point. Saim Ayub has walked into the middle. Pakistan has managed to win games in recent times, but they just have not been able to put on a good start upfront with the bat.
The national anthems are done. Pakistan batting first and defending a total is their strong zone, and Bangladesh believes that chasing is theirs. Is Jaker Ali right? We will be finding it out by 11:30, but at least playing the percentages, he made a good call, but Bangladesh has to bowl well if they can start well, unlike yesterday, they can restrict Pakistan for even a smaller total.
Looks like a good covering of grass. It did take some turn. Swing bowlers and seam bowlers got some movement. There would be some movement thanks to the humidity. There is something in the air. Don't lose too many in the powerplay. There might be some turn later.

We wanted to bat first, so it's okay. Looks a good pitch. Scoreboard pressure is the key. We have defended well after scoring 150-plus. Beating SL was always great. We want to play good cricket and execute our plans. It's always important playing any final. We want to focus on this game, want to win this game. We want to play good cricket. We are playing with the same side.
We would like to bowl first, looks a pretty dry wicket. We have been doing well while bowling first, so we are going with that strategy. As a bowling unit we have been doing well. We have to bat really well in this match. We just want to play for the championship, that's the mindset. We have three changes. Saifuddin, Nasum and Tamim are not playing. Taskin comes in, and Sheikh Mahedi comes in.
"Based on the last two years, we’ve seen that Dubai has been avoiding grass because of the extra usage that the stadium has had. Now, looking at the ground last two weeks, they have got a grass cover at the moment. So I believe that the pitches will not behave as they have for the last two years. The pitches should have better carry to the keeper and should have better pace onto the bat."
“We are very confident and the atmosphere in the camp (is good) given that we have been playing non-stop cricket for such a long time and the kind of options we have.
“And, the good thing is that the players are being backed (by the management), unlike previous days when they were replaced if they were not performing. Now, only two matches are left. If we play two matches well, the trophy will be ours,” he said
“No, there was no feeling of mayusi (disappointment) coming into the match (against Sri Lanka) but since we had lost (to India in the Super 4s opener), no one was feeling good…(But) We put in our best effort in that match."
Before the Asia Cup, we played a couple of series and we batted really well and we chased down comfortably. We all know how dangerous Mustafizur is. It looked like a pretty good wicket to bat on. Mustafizur's 19th over and Taskin's 20th over, they changed the game. It looked like 190 but they kept it down. Taskin bowled a really good (final) over. I know Saif can win games for Bangladesh. We all knew he's going to be a good player in UAE. I know his character and I know how he scores runs. Whenever you chase down like this, you are pumped up for the next game but we have to come again - new day, new team and we have to play our A game.

It's quite surprising, but I take the preparation. All the credit goes to the boys, after ten overs they adjusted brilliantly. We can take lots of things from this game, we have another game tomorrow. We have to keep in mind that we can win tomorrow and play the final. Let's see what kind of combination we are going to go but we will give our best.
The end was frigid, with stone-cold, sweat dripped faces of Indian cricketers and pale, flustered visages of Bangladesh batsmen. India’s 41-run victory, one that parachutes them to the final, was merely a routine attestation of their domination in T20 cricket. They are deromanticizing victories, making it look eerily simply. Silly at times too.
There were times when Bangladesh were in the game, in pursuit of 169, but at no rosy juncture did even their staunchest fan felt that they could pull off a coup. Eventually, they folded up for 127, to an insuperable India, casting the game itself in their mould. (Read Sandip G match report of IND vs BAN from Dubai)
“I’ve not seen the wicket change much in 40 overs. It’s one of the finest wickets in the world to bat on. India-Pakistan was proof of the good track. Bowlers will need to bowl well or it helps batsmen fully. I don’t think toss will make much of a difference.”
“I am a confident, hard-working, committed individual who is determined to succeed in everything that I do. My objective is always to be the best person possible and pass on this as much as possible to others in the Sports industry through mentoring, Coaching, and Encouraging. As an experienced coach still involved at a high level I aim to continue to lead, challenge, and develop as a person both in sport and in my professional career. To make a difference in someone’s life everyday.”
“According to me, if two teams have to play 15-20 matches, and if there’s a 7-all or someone is ahead 8-7, then it’s called playing good cricket and it’s called rivalry. 13-0, 10-1, I don’t know what the stats are. But this is not a rivalry anymore.”
“That’s his view, let him say. When we meet (in the likely Asia Cup final on Sunday), we will see kya hai, kya nahi. Tab dekh lenge. We are here to win the Asia Cup and we will give our best effort for that."
"We will wait till the last minute for Litton."
"Abrar has been bowling well. Whenever we are in a difficult situation, I go to him. Hope he can continue like this for many more seasons for Pakistan."

Hello and welcome to our live blog of Pakistan taking on Bangladesh. It is a knockout game for both sides ahead of facing India in the final. To be fair, although one would consider Pakistan slightly favourites because of the history they bring, in this tournament, the performances from both sides have been quite similar. Hence, it is going to be a cracking contest do stay with us to enjoy all the live action.
Bangladesh is known for its left-arm spinners so how did leggie Rishad Hossain emerge as a force?

It is this geographic aloofness from the national and cricketing capital that nurtured the growth of the rarest cricketing specimen in the country, the leg-spinner. In a country fixated with left-arm spinners, only two specialists leg-spinners have donned the colours of the country, Wahidul Gani and Jobair Hussain, before him. A part-time leg-spinner Alok Kapali grabbed a Test hat-trick, the first by his countrymen, but leg-spin was the art of outliers in Bangladesh.
