Australia quick bowler Mitchell Starc etched his name into record books after the left hander became the quickest bowler to reach 100 wickets in ODI format.

Starc achieved the feat during the course of his match against Sri Lanka at Colombo where he dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva to bag his 100th ODI scalp off a slow good length delivery. Silva’s willow rolled into his hands and the mis-timed stroke went straight to George Bailey standing at short mid-wicket.

The Australian went on to dismantle the long standing record of 19-years which was previous held by Pakistan great off spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.

Saqlain though achieved the feat in 53 matches.

It took Starc 52 matches to script the record. He presently has a tally of 101 wickets with a personal best of 6/28.

The match against Lanka saw the ferocious left-hand fast bowler pick three wickets at the cost of 32 runs in the allotted 10 overs.

Earlier,  Starc, who took three wickets, struck with the fourth ball of the innings to have opener Kusal Perera trudging back to the pavilion for one and then was clinical in chipping in with the wicket of Siriwardana in the slog overs.

Australia are currently on a tour of Sri Lanka where they have already completed the Test series comprising of three encounters and the 5-match ODI series is on the course that would be followed by a T20I series consisting of two clashes.
