Kumar Sangakkara is likely to retire from Test cricket after playing the first Test against India later this year.
According to a ESPNcricinfo report, Sangakkara put his retirement proposal in front of the selection committee last Wednesday. The timing of his retirement will be formally decided in a meeting with the selectors on Tuesday.
The southpaw had decided to retire from all formats of the game following the World Cup but was convinced to stay on for two more series by the former selectors and captain Angelo Mathews.
Selectors had also hoped to convince the batsman to play all six Tests against Pakistan and India, but he remained firm in his decision to step away.
