Indian cricket team set to leave without WAGs

It is learnt that several players have sought BCCI’s permission to let their wives travel with them.

The Indian team is set to depart for their long tour to Australia late on Friday night but they will not be accompanied by their wives and girlfriends. Though, it is learnt, that the BCCI will allows the wives to join the tour later. “Wives will be not travelling with the Indian team but we will review our decision whether to allow them once the series begins. At the moment, only players will leave for Australia along with rest of the support staff,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

It is learnt that several players including Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Umesh Yadav, R Ashwin, Murali Vijay and Mohammad Shami have sought BCCI’s permission to let their wives travel with them. However, they haven’t received any reply till date. Post England tour, the BCCI had decided there will be a restriction on the number of days wives will be allowed to spend with the players. The Indian board will be following the precedent set by Cricket Australia and the England & Wales Cricket Board, who generally fix a slot during a long tour where the players’ WAGs can join them.
