Harmanpreet Kaur blitzed a 49-ball century to power India’s 34-run win over New Zealand. Her assault helped India reach 194/5 in their innings. In reply, New Zealand managed 160/9 with debutante Dayalan Hemalatha and Radha Yadav taking three wickets apiece. Harmanpreet hit 8 sixes and 7 fours in her innings and her hundred is also the third fastest by a player in T20 Internationals. The total was India’s highest in the T20 World Cup and second highest in the shortest format.

India had won the toss and chosen to bat first. They lost their openers early and Harmanpreet was struggling with a fitness issue in the early stages of her innings. Jemimah Rodrigues was doing the bulk of the scoring in that period. The Indian captain finally got going in the 14th over, after which New Zealand were pretty much left with no answers. She shared a partnership of 123 with Rodrigues, which is the highest for any wicket in the T20Is for India.
