CSK vs GT Highlights, IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings make it 2 in 2, defeat Gujarat Titans by 63 runs

The penultimate over of the match and Mustafizur will bowl this one. Yadav takes a single and Tewatia on strike. He goes for a big hit and it's a simple catch for Rachin Ravindra. His third of the match.

They need more of where that came from. Goes for another big hit but this time Rachin Ravindra held his nerves and pulls off a good catch.

Pathirana back in the attack and after a single by Azmatullah, Sudharsan lets loose and almost gets caught by Rachin who drops the catch. Looked simple but it was very high and Rachin was backtracking. Goes again but this time holes out to Sameer Rizvi near the long on boundary.

Chahar to bowl out with this over. Sudharsan on strike and he gets a good connection on the ball but straight to the fielder. A direct hit on the stumps but the batters are safely in and take an extra run. Just 7 from the over.

Jadeja in the attack and starts with 2 dots before Azmatullah takes a single. Sudharsan on strike and he takes 2 more to bring up GT's 100. 6 from the over which just flew past.

You could say that for the second straight night as well, this time about MS Dhoni's glovework. All evening, the Chennai fans were rooting for their Thala to come out to bat. Every time his face was shown on the screen, a huge roar went up. But he remained in the dressing room during CSK's batting innings, with the likes of Sameer Rizvi and Ravindra Jadeja coming out to bat in the end overs. 

But the fans would get their MSD moment. Daryl Mitchell induced an outside edge off Vijay Shankar. Dhoni seemed to be planted on his left foot, but managed to put in a full-length dive to his right and get both hands to the ball. Tushar Deshpande is back in the attack and Sudharsan takes a single to start this one off. Miller calls for 2 next and gets a bog dive off to save himself. And he's gone after a couple of deliveries as Rahane takes a diving catch!! Excellent effort in the field.

Mustafizur back in the attack and Sudharsan swings at the first delivery and gets a boundary. Takes a single next and Miller is on strike now. After 2 runs off the 3rd ball, Miller gets a four of his own. 2 quick singles to end the over 

Mitchell to bowl after the strategic time out and Miller welcomes him with a boundary to deep extra cover before taking a single. Sudharsan tries a pull, dies not middle it and it just falls short of the fielder. Tries a pull again and this time it races to the deep backward square boundary!! A single to end.

Matheesha Pathirana has been unleashed by CSK and Sudharsan takes 2 runs to start this over off. Short ball next and it's over the head of the batter and almost sails over Dhoni who gets his gloves to it to prevent extra runs. Miller on strike and he edges and gets a four!! 

Ravichandran Ashwin once called him 'Yuvraj Singh lite'. The swing of the bat, the clean hitting when he times it well and the fact that he can clear the boundaries are some of the similarities between Shivam Dube and 'Yuvi'. But unlike Yuvraj who made an immediate impact, Dube's career has been up and down. At CSK, he has been unburdened and the fear of failure seems to have gone out of the window. Dube, like a lot of Indian batsmen, is susceptible to the short ball and with two bouncers allowed in an over now, he will have to pick and choose his horizontal bat shots. Against Gujarat Titans, Dube had a perfect game with the bat. He easily dealt with the short ball from pacer Spencer Johnson and dispatched it to the deep fine leg for a six. The left-hander treated Rashid Khan's googly with utter disdain; he spotted it early and deposited it over the long on fence. Five sixes and two four in a whirlwind 51 to go with an unbeaten 34 against RCB in the season opener. Daryl Mitchell has been handed the ball now and Sudharsan tries to find a gap for four but only gets a single. Shankar on strike and he gets an edge and Dhoni dives to his right and gobbles up the ball with an excellent catch!!!

Spin introduced with Jadeja and Sudharsan plays it beyond Dhoni to start off with a boundary. Quick singles follow as the GT batters rapidly rotate strikes. 2 more singles follow as the scoreboard keeps ticking along. 9 from the over.

Last over of the powerplay and Tushar Deshpande will bowl this one. After a dot, Shankar has smashed the short ball for a six!!! a single from the next two balls and the over ends with just a single.

Chahar continues and starts with a wide. Sudharsan follows it up with a pull that can only get a single. Ufff!! The next ball has hit Saha on the helmet. A quick concussion check now. And he pulls again and this time he finds a fielder. Saha is gone. Gujarat lose both openers.

Tushar Deshpande in the attack now and Saha with a single to start this one off. Sudharsan returns the favour with a single of his own. A single more from the next 2 deliveries as Deshpande applies the pressure. Good over. Just 4 from it. 

Chahar to bowl the next over and Gill takes a single before Saha comes down the tracks and smashes the second delivery over deep extra cover for a four!! Swivels in his position and tonks the next ball for another boundary!! Takes another single and Gill is back on strike. Huge shout for an LBW and it's given!! Gill reviews. Looked to be little high but we'll know soon. Wickets hitting and Gill has to walk.

Mustafizur Rahman who took 4 wickets last match, has been introduced in the attack now. The ball is getting changed now. Glorious shot by Saha to start this off with a boundary!! Along the ground and past the bowler. Gets an inside edge next and takes a single. A single by the GT captain and Saha gets a huge edge but gets a four!! Riding his luck. 

Welcome back for the chase with Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill in the middle. Chahar will open the attack. Starts with 3 back to back dots as Saha is cautious. He finally gets a single away and Gill can see off this over. And he sees it off with a straight six. Excellent way to finish the over.

It was a pretty good wicket to bat on. The new ball was coming on nicely. It was about showing some intent, good to bat with Ruturaj. The outfields in India are pretty quick, you get pretty good value for your shots. As a player you want to take down the powerplay. It (total) is slightly over par, but still it's a very good wicket. There's slight dew on the oufield. (Will bowl a few overs) hopefully.

Last over and Sameer Rizvi has already hit Rashid for 2 sixes off the previous over. Who will Gill hand the ball to? Mohit Sharma will bowla nd GT have been penalized for slow over rate. Only 4 players outside the ring now. Mitchell with a single to start. Rizvi on strike and he tries to pull and misses the slower ball. And he's gone the next ball. Straight down the throat of the fielder. Jadeja in the middle now and he ramps for 2 runs. 200 up for CSK. Ohhh!! Lucky. Went for a yorker, Jadeja gets a touch and that's a boundary. A single to end as Mitchell is run out. CSK 206/6 after 20 overs 

Rashid Khan in to bowl the 19th and he has got the big wicket of Dube. He goes for a big hit and that's straight into the hands of Shankar. Guess who comes next

Mohit Sharma continues and Mitchell takes a single. MS Dhoni is shown on screen and the crowd goes nuts. Dube, meanwhile, is going on about his business as he nonchalantly dumps Sharma over long off for a six!! he si 1 run short of 50 now and he gets it with 2 from the last ball

Now then, the last 4 overs. Chennai will be looking for 200. Spencer Johnson will bowl his last over. One run from the first 2 deliveries. A change of willow for Dube now as the camera catches MS Dhoni shadow practicing. What a shot by Mitchell to get a four!! That was smart. Shuffles across and ramps the ball for a four to fine leg. 

Mohit Sharma in the attack now and Dube takes a single to start this over off. Mitchell on strike and he takes 2 more. Follows that up with another brace as the scoreboard keeps ticking. Dube ends the over with a strategically placed four!!

Spencer Johnson back to bowl his third and Mitchell and Dubey rotate strikes. The Kiwi batter tries to pull the third but gets the inside edge and a single. Dube on strike and he flicks to his leg side for a boundary. The fielder had no chance. And a pull by Dube again, latches on to the short delivery and gets a six!! Effortless. 14 from the over.

Rashid Khan back on strike and Mitchell takes a single from the first two deliveries. He waits for the 4th ball and plays a fabulous reverse sweep to get a boundary!!! Dube on strike now and he goes one better and smashes Rashid for a six!! What power this man possesses.

A misunderstanding between two batters often results in a run-out. One between two fielders doesn't always have such a drastic consequence. But Gujarat Titans – already reeling from the Rachin Ravindra rampage at the top of the order – didn't need what happened between David Miller and Rahul Tewatia in the ninth over. It was an innocuous push to the onside by Ajinkya Rahane and would have been only a single, at most a brace. That was before the fielders intervened, or decided not too. Miller was running in from long-on and Tewatia from deep midwicket. They reached the ball at almost the same time but when they got there, they decided to leave it for each other. As a result, the ball ran unimpeded to almost the boundary, and Rahane got four runs without finding the rope. What transpired would have made sense if the fielding side was Lucknow Super Giants. After all, the Uttar Pradesh capital is renowned for its 'pehle aap' culture. However, that doesn't always work on the cricket field where leaving the job to someone else is, more often than not, frowned upon. Johnson in to bowl his second over and Dube pulls but gets just a single to start this one off. Gaikwad on strike and he is gone. Swipes at the ball, gets an inside edge and there comes the dreaded finger. Rutu misses his 50 by just 4 runs.

On to the 12th over and mohit Sharma will bowl this one to Gaikwad who takes a singke straight away as the destructive Dube comes on strike. He has already hit 2 sixes after replacing Rahane in the middle. What's in store for Mohit? Not much as he takes a single to rotate strike. Ruturaj with a single of his own next. Wide ball next and Dube pulls the 4th for another single. So far, so good in this over. 7 from this one. 

Sai Kishore back and he's has struck straightaway. Rahane tries to up the ante, comes out of his crease and tries a big hit. Completely misses the ball and Saha behind the wickets make no mistake.

Spencer Johnson in the attack now and Gaikwad welcomes him with a huge 6!! What a pull shot by the CSK skipper. Good comeback by the bowler as he cuts the batter into half as it goes through him. He takes a single next and Rahane will have to deal with the pacy youngster now. Tries a pull, gets rapped in the gloves and takes a single to bring up CSK's 100. And Gaikwad ends the over with a straight four, over the top of the bowler's head

Sai Kishore continues and Rahane pokes at the first ball but gets no run. Sloppy fielding by the GT and the CSK batters have run 4. Pretty rare sight, to be honest. Great running between the wickets for the CSK batters. 3 runs from the remaining deliveries as the over ends with 8 runs

Rashid Khan in the attack again and Gaikwad mines two from the furst delivery before smashing the wily spinner fot a well placed four off the second ball. Back to back singles from the next couple of deliveries as the CSK batters keep the scoreline busy. 10 from the over though. 

Sai Kishore in the attack now and rahane takes a single off the first delivery. Gaikwad returns the favour with a single off his own. A dot and a single later, the CSK captain is back on strike and he ends the over with a single to retain strike in the next over. Very good over from Sai Kishore. Just 5 from it.

Last over inside the Powerplay and Rachin has smashed the short ball by Rashid Khan for a boundary. Ohhh!!! Is he gone the next ball? Looks like he's stumped. We go upstairs to confirm as the keeper and bowler look confident. And yes, he's out of his crease and there's the breakthrough.

Azmatullah continues and what a glorious cover drive by Gaikwad to start this over off. Gill gave it a chase, dives but the ball just wins this race and goes for a boundary. Oh dear god!!! Rachin on strike and he has picked up the third ball for a monster six!! How did CSK get him so cheap in the IPL auctions? After he evades a short ball, Rachin drives again and gets a four. Exquisite stuff from the Kiwi batter. A wide by the bowler as the pressure mounts on him. Takes a single to keep strike for the next over. 17 from it  

Chennai Super Kings bring up their fifty inside five overs. Once again shows how they have come out on top gear with the bat. It was a common scene last season where they went at over 10 an over in the first powerplay. Yadav will bowl the 4th over and Rachin starts this one off like the last one. He starts with a six off the first ball before smashing the ex-KKR bowler for a four in the next delivery. Takes a single next and Gaikwad is back on strike and he is in on the party as well. Just opens the face of the bat and places the ball to square third man for a boundary!! A single to end the over.

Azmatullah will bowl the next over and Gaikwad places the first delivery through square leg to maraude 2 runs. Tries to get the next one away but a fielder blocks the ball before Gaikwad takes a single to rotate strike. Rachin now to face the bowler and a fabulous froint foot pull shot to get a boundary!! He is just relentless.And another, this time straight down the ground for 4 more.

Umesh Yadav in to bowl the second over and after afew quieter deliveries, Rachin has opened up his arms and brought out a pick up shot for the first 6 of the match!! Follows that up with a four as Chennai engines start purring. 

Azmatullah will open the attack and Ruturaj and Rachin Ravindra is in the middle for Chennai. Just 2 from the first 4 balls as the CSK batters are cautious in the early going, not taking too many risks. Ohhhh!!! Gaikwad has been dropped by Sai Kishore!!! What a chance that was.

In all of this, Mitchell Santner would feel hard done by. He had a superb outing for New Zealand at the last year's World Cup at Chepauk. But he once again warms the bench here. Although Pathirana has been named as the Impact Player, if the pitch turns out to be dry, Chennai have the option of bringing Santner as well. Chennai Super Kings have dropped Maheesh Theekshana. Though it may raise eyebrows, the move to bring in Matheesha Pathirana makes total sense. With Rachin Ravindra in the XI, who is also capable of bowling four overs, Chennai believe Pathirana will provide them with the edge. Shubman Gill: We will bowl first. That (last year's final) match was physical and mentally exhausting. Everyone is well rested and well settled with 10 teams playing. We get enough rest time between matches. It shows the character of the team, the way our bowlers bounced back against Mumbai. Playing with the same team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: We were looking to bowl first, wicket is hard and looks similar to the first game. It was a rusty start (against RCB) but we came back well. Everyone showed good intent throughout the innings. Pathirana comes in for Theekshana.

"It's a different pitch tonight. Looks a really good wicket, there was bounce and carry in the first game. There's a lot of grass on the surface, unsual for a Chepauk pitch. There are a few patches where there's an uneven covering of grass. The spinners will come into play in the middle overs. It's a bat-first wicket," says Matthew Hayden.
