Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday sought to cheer up the disappointed Indian fans, saying victory and defeat are a part of life, and praised the team for playing “great cricket” throughout the World Cup.

“Victory & defeat are a part of life. Team India played great cricket throughout the tournament. We are proud of them,” he tweeted.

Defending champion India suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia in the semi final match on Thursday by 95 runs.
