In the event, he held his own against Carlsen in their individual match up. The duo will be teaming up in the inaugural edition of the Global Chess League as part of the SG Alpine Warriors.
Meanwhile, World No 1 Carlsen ended the tournament without a single win and 11.5 points. He ended up sixth in the event, just behind fourth-placed Anish Giri and No 5 Wesley So.

Carlsen was the only player not to score a classical win in the event. This is the first time since 2007 that the former world champion finished a classical round robin without a win.
