A little over a week ago, The Indian Express launched its daily (and very desi) mini crossword. We’re big fans of word games, and it seemed the right time to bring you something new, relatable, and mobile-friendly. And don’t worry, it’s not aimed at literature students:
Every major crossword is made for the West, not India. You end up stressing about baseball stats, US Congressmen and towns in Europe — things that are largely irrelevant to Indians. On our Mini, you’ll find familiar foods, travel inspo, Indian films, political trivia and the like. You’ll know lots, but you’ll also learn more about your fellow brethren.
It’s designed for beginners. Bigger grids can be humbling, especially if English is not your first language. The Mini’s size will always range between 4×4 to 7×7, so that you can solve it within 5 minutes. It might take you a few tries to get used to the interface, but the vocabulary inside? Very guessable.
We encourage cheating. Nobody gets good at crosswords without a little peek! On phones, you can use the lightbulb icon to reveal letters, words or the entire grid. We also have an auto-checker to help catch mistakes. On PC or tablets, you can find these options by tapping on ‘Reveal’ or ‘Check’.
Need we go on? Try all of Indian Express’ games here, and follow @iepuzzles on Instagram for more brainy fun. Just don’t ask us to justify the profile picture.
