Two days after the BJP government took oath for a second consecutive term in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others, portfolios were distributed Friday among the newly-elected ministers of the Tripura cabinet led by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
While Saha will look after key departments, including Home, Health and Family Welfare, PWD and other departments such as Information and Cultural Affairs as per notification served by chief secretary, Finance, Planning and Coordination and Information Technology portfolios have been allocated to Pranajit Singha Roy.
Ratan Lal Nath has been given charges of Power, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Election departments.
Sudhangshu Das has been given responsibilities of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Animal Resource Development and Fisheries departments.
The charges of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism departments have been given to Sushanta Chowdhury.
Two newly-inducted faces from the BJP, Tinku Roy, has been given charges of departments of Youth Affairs and Sports, Social Welfare and Social Education and Labour while Bikash Debbarma will look after Tribal Welfare, Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture and Statistics departments.
Sukla Charan Noatia, the lone minister from BJP’s alliance partner Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), has been given charges of Cooperation, Tribal Welfare (TRP and PTG) and Welfare of Minorities departments.
The lone woman minister Santana Chakma has been given charges of Industries and Commerce, Jail (Home) and Welfare of OBCs departments.
Saha will keep all the departments that are yet to be distributed among ministers, officials informed.
Three cabinet berths are still vacant and while reports are that these posts are up for bargain with the TIPRA Motha party which won 13 seats in the election this year, the tribal party is yet to give a consent to join the government as it is pressing for a constitutional solution for the tribals.
