External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday took the Congress party by the horns, defending her role in the Lalit Modi controversy that has seen almost the entire Monsoon session wiped out.
Addressing the controversy for a second time, Swaraj defended her role in helping Lalit Modi obtain travel documents, saying if doing something out of compassion was a crime, then she was guilty.
While there is no doubt that Swaraj is one of the better orators in the BJP, her address during the debate on Wednesday stood out for her unrestrained attack on the Gandhi family, hitting out at its top leadership – Sonia and Rahul.

Perhaps upset at the constant personal attacks on her and her family, Swaraj hit back at Rahul asking him to read up on his family history and ask his mummy, “how much money did we get in the Quattrochi case?”
Here are some of her top quotes in today’s Parliamentary speech:
– I’ve not been blamed once in my 38-year long political career. My public life is spotless. It is the Congress that is guilty, not me. I repeat, I’ve done nothing wrong.
– You shout ‘we want justice’ but it’s me who needs justice
– My daughter was lawyer no 9, neither she nor my husband took a single rupee from Lalit Modi in this case
– I want to tell Rahul Gandhi.. you love going on holidays. On your next vacation, when you are alone, read the history of your family. And when you come back, ask your mummy, “how much money did we get in the Quattrochi case?”
– Conflict of interest is when P Chidambaram’s wife Nalini accepts a payment of Rs one crore in Saradha scam
– Quid pro quo is what happened during Rajiv Gandhi’s government. Who let Anderson fly out of the country?
Parliament will reconvene on Thursday for the last day of the Monsoon session, where the government is hopeful of passing the Goods and Services Taxation Bill in Rajya Sabha.
