India ODI and T20 cricketer Rinku Singh is set to marry Lok Sabha MP Priya Saroj, her family said on Sunday.

The 27-year-old cricketer from Aligarh, who has represented the country in two one-dayers and 30 T20 Internationals, will marry the 26-year-old lawyer-turned-politician in a year’s time, after the two families agreed to the alliance, those in the know said.

“While marriage has been finalised, no ceremony has taken place so far. Right now, she (Priya) is in Thiruvananthapuram for a meeting of a parliamentary committee of which she is a member. There hasn’t been any engagement ceremony either. These matters are yet to be finalised as even Rinku is busy with the T20 series against England (which begins on Wednesday),” Priya’s father and the Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Kerakat constituency in Jaunpur district, Toofani Saroj, told The Indian Express.“Shadi taya hai (marriage is finalised).”

Priya entered politics soon after getting her Bachelor of Laws degree. She became a first-time MP from Machhlishahr Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at the age of 25, defeating sitting BJP MP B P Saroj by around 35,000 votes. She hails from Varanasi and completed her higher studies from Delhi. Her father has been a three-term MP, two times from Saidpur and once from Machhlishahr in 2009, before losing in 2014 and 2019.

Kolkata Knight Riders left-hander Rinku, hailing from a family of humble means, made his name when he hit Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes in the final over to win a game in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League. More eye-catching performances resulted in him being selected for India and he was also one of the stand-byes for the ICC T20 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean last year, a tournament that India went on to win.
