The Congress has called an urgent meeting of its senior leadership on Wednesday afternoon to discuss its strategy for Thursday’s all-party meeting in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

“Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge ji has convened an emergency informal meeting of senior leaders present in Delhi, at 3 PM today at 24 Akbar Road, to discuss the current security situation,” AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal, said in a post of X.

On the other hand, sources said that the meeting will help the party finetune its narrative.

The meeting also comes amid the party’s balancing act being threatened by stray comments from some of its own leaders. In the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam attack on April 22, the Congress offered unconditional support to the government while flagging intelligence and security lapses. The party also did not call for any resignations.

Claiming that meeting is important, another source within the Congress said the party hopes that its leaders do not repeat their mistakes. “We will communicate with our leaders through the CWC resolution and give them instructions to toe the party line,” the leader said.

Meanwhile, reactions supporting the government on Operation Sindoor trickled in from Congress leaders as the news of the airstrikes broke in the early hours of Wednesday. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the party had “categorically stood with the armed forces and the government since the day of the Pahalgam attack and that national interest was supreme for the party”.

“India has an unflinching national policy against all forms of terrorism emanating from Pakistan and PoK. We are extremely proud of our Indian armed forces who have stuck terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. We applaud their resolute resolve and courage,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had said in a post on X.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that he was proud of the armed forces.
