Need for humility, absence of arrogance in Left leaders: CPI

On a veiled attack on CPM leaders, especially Prakash Karat,CPI spoke of the need for 'humility and total absence of arrogance' in the behaviour and attitude of all Left leaders.

Smarting under the electoral debacle, the CPI on Wednesday spoke of the need for “humility and total absence of arrogance” in the behaviour and attitude of all Left leaders, remarks seen as a veiled attack on CPI(M) leaders, especially its General Secretary Prakash Karat.

The two-day meeting of the party National Executive, which concluded on Wednesday, held a preliminary review of the elections and felt that a “frank, critical and self-critical” review should be carried out into the manner in which the Left Front worked.

“The National Executive emphasises the need for humility and total absence of arrogance in the behaviour and attitude of all Left leaders and activists in relation to people,” party General Secretary A B Bardhan said at the end of the meeting.

Though no names were mentioned, observers feel the remarks were aimed at the “Big Brother” CPI(M) which heads the Left Front governments in West Bengal and Kerala. The CPI and other smaller Left parties often complained of ‘Big Brother’ attitude by the CPI(M).
