Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel was under fire from Narendra Modi in his home turf in Bharuch as BJP’s PM candidate alleged Patel was involved in “anti-national activities like hawala and money laundering”.
Speaking in Gujarati, Modi repeatedly referred to Patel as “a very close confidant of 10 Janpath”, “Madam Soniaji’s confidant” and “adviser to 10 Janpath”.
“The central government should clarify who is this person close to Soniaji and involved in this hawala racket,” he said.
Modi alleged Sonia’s “close friends” were also involved in another scam involving “thousands of crores of rupees” and “anti-national activities” but the Centre was drawing a veil over it.
“A Pune-based horse trader was caught in a scam involving thousand of crores of rupees. The Supreme Court directed the centre to form an SIT. However, the centre has not formed any SIT just to hide Sonia’s close friends,” he declared.
Modi also attacked Patel for camping in Dediapada at the time of polls and said, “The Congress has accepted defeat, otherwise why should its adviser come here to rest. In such an important election, where I have no time to even breathe, he is resting here, eating mangoes.”
On Rahul Gandhi’s charge that the BJP did not believe in empowering women, Modi said, “This very BJP government passed a bill in the Assembly for…50 per cent reservation for women at all levels of governance. But your governor refused to put her signature on it thrice.”
