Jayalalitha petitions K’tka HC to quash disproportionate assets case

Ex-Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa filed a petition in the Karnataka HC urging it to quash the proceedings initiated by the Special Court against her.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court urging it to quash the proceedings initiated by the Special Court against her in disproportionate assets case.

A Bangalore special court is hearing the disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa.

Earlier,the Supreme Court transferred the disproportionate assets case against her from Chennai to Bangalore.

In her appeal,Jayalalithaa,said in June 1997,the Special Court in Tamil Nadu took cognizance of the alleged offences and issued summons to her and others.

She termed the entire proceedings as illegal and violative of the provisions of the criminal procedure code.

Jayalalithaa also urged the High Court to summon all the records relating to the case.

In 2009,the court rejected the opinion of the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) B.V. Acharya,to drop the prosecution in the London Hotels case.

The Tamil Nadu Government and the SPP had filed an appeal in the High Court against the Special Court order which came to be allowed.
