Maharashtra: Govt deploys 16 officers in drought hit Marathwada

The deputy collector rank officers have been told to resume the office by December 26.

The state government on Saturday transferred majority of the 16 deputy collector rank officers working in Pune, Mumbai to drought hit
Marathwada region with a stern warning to resume the work before December 26. The decision comes a day after chief minister Devendra
Fadnavis said, “ All the key posts lying vacant in the backward regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada would be immediately filled to
ensure long pending projects in the region would be expedited.” Highly placed sources indicated that almost ten out of 16 officials who have been posted to drought hit Marathwada were serving in Mumbai and Pune.

A senior officer in the ministry of revenue told Indian Express, “ In the past 15 years it has come to notice that often key posts in the backward region of Vidarbha and Marathwada had remained vacant. Often transfer orders issued by the government were not adhered as the priority of officials have been serve in Pune and Mumbai which are the most favoured destinations.”

Even the Congress-NCP ministers did not take the initiative to fill up the vacant posts in backward region which have been facing major
agrarian crisis as projects remained incomplete despite allocation of funds.
