Donations to Congress halves to Rs 522 crore in 2024-25
The total donations received by Congress is just a fraction of the Rs 6,088 crore the Bharatiya Janata Party received in 2024-25.

The Congress received Rs 522.13 crore from grants, donations and contributions in 2024-25, less than half of what it received (Rs 1,129.66 crore) in 2023-24. While elections to the Lok Sabha were announced in March 2024 (financial year 2023-24), they were conducted in seven phases during April-June 2024 (financial year 2024-25).
The total donations received by Congress is just a fraction of the Rs 6,088 crore the Bharatiya Janata Party received in 2024-25.
According to the Contribution Report for 2024-25 submitted by the Congress to the Election Commission of India, 60 per cent or Rs 313.76 crore of the total donations of Rs 522.13 crore came from electoral trusts. The report lists details of donors — individuals, companies and trusts — contributing more than Rs 20,000 to the party.
The party’s Annual Audit Report for 2024-25, submitted separately to the Election Commission, reveals the sources of income other than donations. These are: Rs 350.12 crore from collection by issuing coupons, Rs 36.69 crore from fee and subscriptions, and Rs 9.33 crore from ‘other income’.
Besides electoral trusts, which accounted for 60 per cent of all donations, the biggest donors to the Congress in 2024-25 are: ITC Infotech India Limited (Rs 11.50 crore), Hindustan Zinc Limited (Rs 10 crore), Sandur Manganese & Iron Ore Ltd (Rs 9.75 crore), Suresh A Kotak (Rs 7.50 crore), Century Plywood (Rs 5 crore) and ITC Limited (Rs 4 crore).

Senior party leader P Chidambaram has contributed Rs 3 crore and and Member of Parliament Rajeev Gowda has donated Rs 4.20 crore.
Some other companies which donated are: Derive Investment Rs 4 crore, Indian Finance Private Limited Rs 2.50 crore. Star Cement Ltd Rs 3 crore, Finolex Industries Limited and Russell Credit Limited, Rs 1 crore each.
Among the electoral trusts that contributed to the Congress are: Prudent Electoral Trust (Rs 216.33 crore); Progressive Electoral Trust (Rs 77.34 crore); AB General Electoral Trust (Rs 15 crore), New Democratic Electoral Trust (Rs 5 crore) and Jankalyan Electoral Trust (Rs 9.5 lakh).
