Senior Uttar Pradesh minister Shivpal Yadav Saturday said the doors of the Samajwadi Party are always open to welcome former colleague Amar Singh back into the fold. A decision on the former Rajya Sabha MP’s return, however, will have to be taken by SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh himself, he said.
“Amar Singh is a family friend. We regularly meet and talk. Yesterday, I met him in New Delhi…Netaji (Mulayam) had a talk with him for two-and-a-half hours. SP’s doors are never closed but the decision has to be taken by Amar Singh himself and Mulayam Singh,” Shivpal told the media on Saturday.
Defending Amar Singh, whom he referred to as “a friend of the Yadav family”, Shivpal refuted media reports that his name was struck off the party list of Rajya Sabha candidates.
“He never asked for a Rajya Sabha ticket. Even Jaya Prada did not ask for a MLC ticket so there is no question of denying tickets to them. If they had expressed their desire , it would have been considered,” Shivpal added.
Amar Singh, who was expelled from SP in 2010 after being a member for 14 years, is now getting close to Mulayam’s family again.
Frequent meetings between the two sides has given rise to speculation that he may rejoin the SP soon, along with Jaya Prada.
