ITR Filing Last Date FY 2024-25: As the income tax season approaches, individuals and companies across India must exercise their civic obligations by filing their income tax returns (ITR).
Beyond legal requirements, fulfilling your tax obligations also allows you to claim benefits. It serves as valuable proof of income, which can be essential for securing loans, applying for visas, or participating in government tenders, in addition to enabling the claiming of tax refunds if you’ve paid excess taxes.
One common mistake which taxpayers tend to make is delaying or missing the ITR filing date. As a result, taxpayers may lose certain rights, face penalties, and incur interest on unpaid taxes.
For non-audit taxpayers, the final date to file an ITR generally falls on the 31st of July of the following fiscal year; the last date for filing an ITR for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26) is Thursday, July 31, 2025.
If one misses the ITR filing date, they can file a belated return by Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with penalties and interest.
