Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested by paramilitary Rangers Tuesday while he was present at the Islamabad High Court for the hearing of a corruption case.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief had travelled from Lahore to Islamabad to appear before the court in a case pertaining to graft. “Khan has been arrested in the Al-Qadeer trust case when he was present in the Islamabad High Court,” his party said in a brief statement.

Former information minister and PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry earlier said the court has been “occupied by the Rangers” and lawyers “are being subjected to torture”.
The former cricketer and prime minister is facing a multitude of cases since his government lost a trust vote in the National Assembly last year. Among these cases is one pertaining to illegally wihtdrawing gifts from the state’s Toshakhana, and threatening and intimidating a female judge.
