Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Friday won the NA-130 seat by a huge margin in the recently concluded Pakistan general elections, securing over 172,000 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid who got over 113,000.
However, the three-time former Prime Minister, faced a significant defeat in in the NA-15 Mansehra constituency, losing the seat to independent candidate Shahzada Gastasap, who secured 74,713 votes against Sharif’s 63,054 votes.
Nawaz and three of his family members managed to score victories in their stronghold Lahore. Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz won from NA-119, securing over 83,000 votes against PTI-backed candidate Farooq Shahzad.
His younger brother Shehbaz Sharif won from NA-123 bagging 63,000 votes against independent candidate Afzaal Phaat. Shehbaz’s son Hamza Shehbaz also secured victory in the NA-118 constituency, by getting over 105,000 votes against PTI’s Aliya Hamza, who bagged over 100,000.
The PML-N had earlier said that Nawaz Sharif was set to deliver his “victory speech” once the final results were announced, adding that the party was in contact with the independent candidates backed by jailed former premier Imran Khan’s party, PTI.
