Claws claws everywhere. In B town it’s the season of reactions, ramifications and rejoinders. For an industry, deemed largely spineless and thriving on fake politeness and hypocrisy,it is refreshing to see some uncharacteristic candour from some of its players.

Much of it started on Karan Johar’s show Koffee with Karan. He is known to serve a piping cuppa but in the third season,Karan’s brew is scalding. Some of the comments made by his guests have come back to haunt them. Words have been exchanged, equations changed which has got everyone in B town talking.

Here’s a lowdown of the latest controversies and their impact:

Incident One:  Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor indulge in not so gentle ribbing of Ranbir Kapoor

Context:  When asked to give a piece of advice to her ex boyfriend,Deepika said,“He should endorse a condom brand.” She rated Ranbir last on the sex appeal scale and made quite a few digs at him for cheating on her. When asked what would she do if she woke up to find out she has turned into Ranbir, she said,“I’ll go back to sleep.” Her couch buddy Sonam meanwhile labeled Ranbir as a “good friend but not a good boyfriend.” She also spilled the beans about Ranbir’s famous towel moment and said that she had seen it all during the shoot of Saawariya and wasn’t much impressed. She also said that he needs a stylist pronto.

Reaction:  In an interview to a Mumbai tabloid,a livid Rishi Kapoor lashed out at the girls’ class and upbringing and also expressed his displeasure with Karan who he felt provoked the girls for better TRP’s.

Ramification:  Deepika and Sonam have been ousted from Ranbir’s world tour to be held next year.

Incident Two:  Farah Khan makes unflattering remarks about Deepika’s acting abilities

Context:  Deepika was a casualty in Karan’s show when her Om Shanti Om  director Farah, ranked her last on the acting talent scale. When Karan reminded Farah that she made her debut in her film,Farah retorted,“I’ve also seen her other movies.”

Reaction:  A day after the telecast of the show,Farah apologized to Deepika and reiterated that she has grown as an actor and especially complimented her on her performance in Karthik Calling Karthik .

Ramification:  Just so you know that aal izz well  between the director and the protégé,reports are filtering in that Deepika has changed her RK tattoo into TMK (read Tees Maar Khan which is Farah’s latest project).

Incident Three:  Salman Khan comments on Guzaarish  and Hrithik Roshan requests him to behave like a hero

Context:  This did not happen on Karan’s show but at a function to honour the physically challenged. Salman Khan was asked by a journalist why Bollywood has stopped making films like Dosti  (story of two friends, one was blind and the other was crippled) to which the Dabangg  star replied,“These days such films don’t work. A film that released recently… Guzaarish … oops…  (he stopped and continued) Even I did a film where I played an AIDS patient ( Phir Milenge ) even a dog didn’t come to see it. People want to watch entreating films. If you want to give them a message they need to come to the theatre first. What to do?” Salman’s words were misconstrued by a tabloid which quoted Salman as saying,“ Guzaarish mein makkhi uddh rahi thi lekin koi machchar bhi nahin gaya dekhne .”

Reaction:  Hrithik Roshan without investigating what Salman had really said decided to take up for Bhansali and told Salman (all in print of course) that “Heroes don’t gloat, they should show some grace.”

Ramification:  The long awaited Bhansali- Salman period romance Bajirao Mastani will not be taking off.

Finally Bollywood is speaking out. We like.
