Neighbour’s envy?

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai’s New Delhi visit is critical because India is the first country with whom Afghanistan has signed this strategic agreement (‘Great friends’,IE,October 5). This will cover a whole lot of issues ranging from politics, security, economics, etc. Due to a not-so-favourable response from Pakistan,Afghanistan is looking towards India with great hope. It could be a win-win situation for both countries.

Up with Aakash

The low-cost tablet,Aakash,is an overwhelming sign of the digital revolution in India (‘We see the start of dream that has been realised’,IE,October 6). Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam advocated urban amenities for rural areas — which is taking place, although at a snail’s pace. Technology is increasingly becoming an integral part of human life. We need to bridge the digital divide through laudable steps like the Aakash tablet.

The report ‘4,000 Chinese in PoK,says Army Chief’

(IE,October 6) informs us Chinese troops have been strengthening Pakistan’s military fortifications along the border. The “collaboration” between China and Pakistan doesn’t come as a surprise as it has been in place since the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Rath race

L.K. Advani’s proposed rath yatra is uncalled for as anti-corruption sentiments are widespread now. Instead,if Advani is so keen on riding a rath, and has no political agenda as he claims,he should undertake a Ganga purification yatra. If he devotes himself to this cause, generations will remember him.

No help needed

THIS refers to ‘Anna’s new war cry: Defeat Congress’ (IE,October 5). The Congress doesn’t require Anna Hazare’s help in a defeat. It has many failed leaders at the top. Hazare is regarded as a non-partisan,non-violent and incorruptible mass leader. If he joins electoral politics, people will lose a great leader.

Party time

IT is reported that the Congress is feeling jittery about Anna Hazare’s electoral foray. This isn’t surprising. With all the scams that have tumbled out of the UPA’s closet, the credibility of Manmohan Singh’s government has touched its nadir. Public anger was evident during the recent movement against corruption. The Congress is sure to be decimated in the next elections.
