* This refers to Paks Punjab govt allocates millions for Saeeds JuD centre (IE,June 19). Pakistans Punjab province government has reportedly set aside funds,in its budget for the fiscal year 2013-14,for the largest centre yet,and a knowledge park,of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa,which is considered to be a front for the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba. Punjab officials say the funds are humanitarian in nature. It is the first time that the authorities in Pakistan have formally admitted to allocating money to institutions linked to the JuD. The government has long been under international pressure to crack down on militant groups. I strongly feel that we should take some tough decisions on our foreign policy regarding Pakistan.

See through justice
* KAPIL Sibals advocacy of audio recording of court proceedings (Voice of reason,IE,June 17) is practical and is bound to have an immediate salutary effect on the conduct of advocates and judges,particularly in trial courts. The trial court stage of a case is prone to delays due to frequent adjournments as well as poor presentation and recording of evidence. All of this occurs at the cost of ordinary seekers of justice. Opposition to Sibals suggestion,which will curtail crippling delays,from the large and entrenched group of players in the justice system,many with a vested interest in upholding the status quo,is but natural.

Natural fury
* THIS refers to Toll rises,worse feared (IE,June 19). The horrific floods and destruction in Uttarakhand and other parts of north India over the past few days cannot be put down to lack of preparedness alone. Floods and destruction due to natural causes are always going to happen and no number of warning systems will prevent them. However,the number of deaths and the extent of the damage can also be attributed to the spread of human habitation as well as extensive deforestation and ecological change. Rampant illegal construction,the blocking of natural water channels,removal of green cover and rainwater being inadequately absorbed have all contributed to the scale of the tragedy.

Peace for our time?
n This refers to Taliban to start peace talks with US,Afghanistan,open office in Qatar (IE,June 19). The Afghan government is all set to take over responsibility for the security of the country from Nato forces,due to leave the country by 2014. There can be no stability in Pakistan without a stable Afghanistan. In the interests of peace and stability in the region,the Taliban must be made to permanently break ties with al-Qaeda,shun violence,and accept the Afghan constitution.
