Let’s question

* As a regular reader of The Indian Express,I am now beginning to wonder which way it is headed (‘Annationalism’,IE,September 3). I’m not sure Jayaprakash Narayan would be happy! I would like to believe he would have supported this anti-corruption movement and Anna Hazare too! But we are a democracy and you are entitled to your “vigorous” disagreements.

However,I feel you should be directing articles to our MPs,who as all you “no-sayers” constantly remind us are our elected representatives. How true! We elect them out of a sense of responsibility and then how we are shortchanged for the five years till the next elections! For the next five years we have no voice.

My suggestion to you is,again, address yourself to the MPs. You know the Constitution better than I do: are they following the Constitution? Do they know the background which led to the framing of the Constitution? When I watch Lok Sabha sessions,it’s really not the impression I get. If they are my elected representatives, should they be representing my view in Parliament or their party’s?

Why not be proactive and help your readers by compiling a series of questions which we can ask of our MP/ MLA/ councillor on a regular basis between elections? Thanks to Team Anna,Anna himself (about whom I first read a positive article some 20 years ago in IE) and the anti-corruption movement,I now know that I have the right to question my MP/ MLA/ councillor.

* This refers to ‘Hazare a mask of RSS,like Ramdev: Digvijaya’ (IE,September 6). The Congress general secretary’s utterances are counterproductive and incoherent. He denigrates Anna Hazare as a supporter of the RSS but says he respects him as a Gandhian. He depicts Arvind Kejriwal as dishonest but says he has respect for Team Anna. Does Singh mean the RSS favours the anti-corruption movement while the Congress favours the present state of things?

Hand in glove?

* This refers to ‘CBI arrest Janadharan ‘illegal mining’ Reddy’ (IE,September 6). The BJP’s defence of the Reddy brothers will haunt them now after G. Janardhan Reddy’s arrest. The Congress shouldn’t rejoice as the Congress and BJP are equally guilty in the rise of the Reddy brothers.

* My sincere thanks to Ramesh Sharma for ‘When television was revolutionised’ (IE,September 5) for showing his irritation with the non-stop coverage of Anna Hazare’s fast. Hazare was already quite popular,so what was the need for such hysterical reporting? Kiran Bedi was also no less popular among urban Indians. So why telecast their antics live?
