Congress has won because the people have realised that they use religion and the nationalism to invoke passions and win votes. And when they come to power they don’t keep their governance promises. When the people started noticing this, the BJP started pushing its divisive and polarising agenda.
Now, the BJP stands exposed and the people of Karnataka have rejected them. They wanted a party which would heal the wounds of the divisions created by the BJP; fulfil the aspirations of the youth, a large section of whom are unemployed, and address the suffering of all those who have been betrayed by the government: The poor, marginalised, small and medium traders.
That is why Congress Party has got a decisive victory. The people of Karnataka have voted for an inclusive government. It is a big win for the Congress and sends a message to the BJP: They way the party ill-treated democracy, the manner in which Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP, will not be tolerated by the people.
The results from Karnataka are just the beginning. They portend a surge against the BJP in the days ahead.
The promises made by Congress also helped. We spoke about the difficulties faced by the common man, campaigned for love, harmony, inclusiveness and spread the message of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The BJP resorted to spewing divisiveness and spent huge sums of money for the polls, which it had amassed as a result of the “40 per cent corruption” in the Karnataka government. Today, Congress has won without money power. This can herald a change in the way politics is conducted in the country.
We will give an inclusive government. The BJP had pitted communities against each other and created divisions. We are going to give a healing touch. The prime agenda of this government will be to take the people along. We will work towards an inclusive and progressive Karnataka.
