Tripura: Two-day-old infant recovered from jungle in Sipahijala, being treated for ant bites

A source in the neonatal ICU of IGM Hospital said that the child is suffering from an infection, her face, eyes and other body parts were affected due to ant bites. “We are keeping her under observation. She will be with us till her condition improves.”

An infant was recovered from a jungle near Bishramganj in Sipahijala district on Thursday evening after the two-old girl child was allegedly abandoned by her parents, police said Friday. The infant had numerous marks of ant bites on her face and body parts. A team of the Tripura chapter of CHILDLINE India had recovered the infant along with police personnel on Thursday.

“One Bodhulaxmi Debbarma heard a baby crying inside a jungle and informed the police. We shifted the baby to Bishramganj Hospital immediately after she was recovered on Thursday evening. She was later referred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Agartala”, Officer-in-charge of Bishramganj Police Station Pannalal Saha told reporters. The child is now being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of IGM Hospital.

Bipul Kanti Majumder, a coordinator of the Tripura chapter of CHILDLINE India, said, “We recovered the child. Her condition is now stable. The baby will be placed before the Child Welfare Committee for rehabilitation after she gains full recovery.”
