After Vidyajyoti schools performed poorly in the CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education is considering holding Bochhor Bachao (save-a-year) examinations for students unable to clear its examinations, results of which are awaited, in the first go.
A decision in this regard, however, could come only after the state board announces its results.
As per the Bochhor Bachao scheme introduced by the state government in 2020, students are guaranteed entry to colleges, or to the next class in the case of board exams, even if they fail in two subjects, provided they have secured a minimum of 150 marks. They have to clear a retest within 75 days of the publication of the results to continue higher education, though.
“After the announcement of the results, some will pass and some may fail… Based on their results and situation, the board will later issue a notification for students who want to take Bochor Bachao examinations. We will give details of the form fill-up process for Bochhor Bachao in a notification after the board results,” said TBSE president Dr Dhananjoy Gan Choudhury.
Gan Choudhury also said the board would announce the examination results by the last week of May. “We completed the evaluation of answer scripts of board examinees on May 9. All the evaluated copies were brought here (TBSE headquarters) on May 10. We are working on the post-evaluation processes before the final announcement of results,” he added.
The state board’s Class 12 examinations were held from March 1 to March 30 and Madhyamik (Class 10) examinations from March 2 to March 23. Around 33,000 students appeared for the Madhyamik exams, while over 23,000 students took the higher secondary exams.
Class 12 students who secure at least 150 marks out of five subjects but fail to secure pass marks in up to three subjects are allowed to appear in re-examinations under the Bochhor Bachao scheme.
Last year the board’s Class 10 and 12 examinations recorded 86.02 per cent and 83.24 pass rates, respectively. The figures were 86 per cent (Class 10) and 94.46 per cent (Class 12) in 2022.
