The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Sunday announced it will hold a door-to-door akshat (prasad) distribution campaign in Tripura from January 1. The right-wing organisation said the 15-day campaign has been planned ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on January 22.

Speaking to reporters in Agartala, VHP Tripura Secretary Shankar Roy said Ayodhya Ram Mandir authorities have sent akshat prasad to Tripura and other states in the country.

“Our activists have already visited all eight districts in the state and kept the akshat prasad in major temples there. Later, our activists will visit all sanatani (Hindu) families and hand over a leaflet, a laminated photograph of the Ram Mandir, and some akshat prasad. We appeal to all to join the inaugural event of the Ram Mandir on January 22,” Roy said.

The consecration of the Ayodhya Ram temple began with Akshat Pujan last month. Nearly 500 kg of rice along with other ingredients were used to prepare the akshat.

Later, Tripura VHP authorities added more rice to the akshat and sent the prasad to all districts and block areas for further distribution.

Speaking to indianexpress.com, senior VHP leader Purna Chandra Mandal said their activists will distribute pamphlets in local languages along with the akshat, requesting people to join the ‘pran pratistha’ ceremony of Ram Lalla (deity) in Ayodhya from their respective homes, temples, and other places.

Overall, 7,500 people have been formally invited to join the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. VHP Tripura President Sachindra Kalai will also join the event.
