(Express/File) With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held in 2024, Tripura’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began its booth strengthening process on Saturday.
The state has two Lok Sabha seats that are currently with the BJP since 2019.
“We have begun the process of strengthening the booths targeting the Lok Sabha polls to be held next year. We came to power in Tripura for the second time this year. Our Prime Minister Modiji has given several gifts to the state. Now, it is our sole responsibility to gift him two representatives in the Lok Sabha from our state,” said state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya.
Earlier in March after Assembly poll results, Bhattacharya had asked party workers to focus on identifying the weak booths and adopt required initiatives to strengthen the party organisation.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Rajya Sabha MP and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, former deputy chief minister Jishnu Devvarma, lone IPFT minister Suklacharan Noatia and other BJP leaders and workers attended the ‘Booth Sashaktikaran Abhiyan’ (booth strengthening campaign) at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala.
The BJP won 32 seats and its alliance partner the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) managed to get only one seat in the recently held Assembly polls. The CPM secured 11 and the Congress got 3 seats. Royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s TIPRA Motha party bagged 13 seats and became the main opposition party in the state.
