NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 4: National motocross champion Zubin Patel has been put on a life support system with severe injury to his brain following an accident near Kaza in the Himalayan mountain ranges on Monday.
“He is still in a critical condition with severe brain injury,” Dr Rajendra Prasad, the surgeon treating the biker said here on Wednesday.
Zubin, the current motocross championship leader, met with an accident in the Lahaul Spithi area while leading his team of TVS Suzuki in the ongoing Raid de Himalayas rally.
“His Catscan has shown injury to the brain and also there is a damage to his spine,” said Prasad.
Zubin, who took to the sport as a family tradition, will be on ventillator for four to five days before the doctors are able to assess the amount of damage and treatment required.
The biker was flown in from Kaza on Tuesday morning and was admitted to Apollo Hospital here.
“We will have to wait and see what can be done to reduce the damage. He is presently not responding to any treatment,” said the doctor.
The Mumbai-based 25-year-old Zubin received serious head injuries while driving a No 51 unmodified’ vehicle in Group C on the second day of the rally at about 11,000 feet above sea level.
