SEPT 17: Education entwined with different media will be the order of the day. Or so was the futuristic message conveyed to nearly 50 school teachers by Uma Ganesh, President and CEO of Zee Interactive Learning Systems ZILS at the Nehru Science Centre today. Ganesh was speaking at a seminar on Learning Solutions for Schools Covergence organized by ZILS.
Stressing that the present education system, not only in India but across the world commanded meagre interactivity and flexibility, Ganesh tried to give solutions. The solutions were in the form of educational packages designed especially for students. Making her point through a well-orchestratred slide show, she said, 8220; the education system at present is pre-determined. We need to evolve a new evaluation process and shift the handle of education from the system to the learner. Only technology can help us do this8221;.
Thereafter, she explained the audience, mainly comprising school teachers, how TV, radio, video and the internet can be converged to submit a comprehensive education model for students. She also emphasised the fact that this would facilitate more interactivity and capture the students interest in no time.
Ganesh later declared that Zee8217;s later offering, ZED-an education channel would be soon launched by the first week of October. As the seminar was winding up with a live demonstration of online education programmes by Pramila Kudwa, Head of Zest Initiative, two teachers were heard whispering: 8220;if children study at home itself, their only outdoor activity of going to school will also be stopped. And all this is spoon-feeding, kids will have to stop using brains8221;. Food for thought, indeed!
