Anyone who believes that talk of his quitting has made John Wright lose focus or his competitive edge should have been at the Bangabandhu Stadium today. The concern Wright had for those not even in the Playing XI showed that he hasn8217;t taken his eye off the ball.

Once Sourav Ganguly won the toss, the playing XI left to change. Fast bowler Shib Shankar Paul, built like a weightlifter, moved to join them till he was stopped by Wright. 8216;8216;What are you doing, come back,8217;8217; he said in best schoolmaster fashion as Paul meekly obeyed.

At stumps, Wright prepared for his usual end-of-day jog around the stadium 8212; and decided to rope in Paul too. As the two began doing rounds of the BNS, it was clear that Paul couldn8217;t match his coach8217;s stamina.

Round and round they went, the 50-year-old Wright egging on the 22-year-old Paul. As the Bengal bowler struggled to keep pace 8212; he was lapped by fellow pacer Gagandeep 8212; his teammates shotuing encouragement.

Finally Wright, run done, entered the dressing room with a big smile on his face. He then turned to face journalists. 8216;8216;That was quite a run John. You looked 23 and he 508230;8217; 8216;8216;It will take time, but we will get him there,8217;8217; he said, as the smile got wider.

Then added, with a twinkle in his eye: 8216;8216;The worst part is he doesn8217;t know that he may have to do it tomorrow as well.8217;8217;
