Oxford offers courses on Internet
LONDON: Oxford University will open its college gates to the Internet next year, offering degree courses to be completed on-line. 8220;From January, post-graduate students will be able to engage in medicine, computing and software engineering courses over the internet,8221; the University said here yesterday. Overseas students would be able to win an Oxford degree without setting foot inside one of the famous college courtyards. Students will be either called to Oxford for writing the exams or can take them at British Council buildings around the world.
Jittery groom
BOSTON: A jittery groom who passed out before saying 8220;I do,8221; finished his vows in an un-traditional setting of an ambulance. Rafael Pittman fainted at the altar on Saturday while awaiting his bride-to-be, Shelly. So, she followed him to the ambulance, where he was attended to by the emergency workers. She stepped into the ambulance and one of the paramedics joked, 8220;they shouldjust get married right there.8221; Suddenly a minister hops in and with the two emergency officers as witnesses, they did get married. The Rev Jason Sutton said he made the ceremony short and sweet. The couple exchanged rings, vows and kissed, then jumped in their limousine and headed off to the reception.8221;
Angry Buddha
BANGKOK:A statue of Buddha that has stirred controversy because it portrays the founder of one of the world8217;s great religions in an aggressive pose should be changed, Thailand8217;s highest board of Buddhist monks said today.
The controversy centres on a statue of the Buddha with his foot on top of a globe and arms raised as if in victory. Many monks and religious Buddhists say the statue is offensive because of its aggressive posture, which goes against the peaceful teachings of Buddha.
