
A woman was allegedly killed by a Nepali labourer at Darwa village, late last evening. The deceased, identified as Yashodha Devi 43, a resident of Barla village, was going to attend a marriage at Darwa village.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed the deceased was allegedly taken to a secluded place by Govinda alias Rahul Bahadur with the intention to rape her. However, when Yashodha Devi resisted, the accused gave her a fist blow on the nose, after which she fell down. The accused again attempted to rape her but the woman started crying for help.
Then he hit her head with a stone and she fell unconscious. He made several strikes with a large stone leading to her death. Govinda worked as a construction labour with a private contractor in the area.
Agitated over the murder, hundreds of villagers assembled in the village and gheroed the police who had arrived in the village. The protesters reportedly bolted the room from outside in which Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Pathania was trying to pacify the villagers.
Additional Superintendent of Police S R Rana said an additional force was dispatched to the village to control the situation. The situation brought under control at about 2 a.m. A case has been registered.
