Over the years, Delhiites have developed a taste for Chinese food, the most popular cuisine in the city after Punjabi-Mughlai fare. But if you want to know a little more about Chinese food, and not necessarily the Indo-Chine masala noodles conjured up in every corner of the city, Discovery8217;s new series with Kylie Kwong will be worth a watch. The popular Australian-Chinese television chef will strut through her ancestral village in Guangdong province, brave the wild Tibetan plateau and plough through the pepper farms in Sichuan to showcase the peasant style of cooking that is popular in the villages. 8220;I think my series will be of interest to Indian audience as Chinese food is popular here. Through this series, we8217;ll introduce people to ancient Chinese provinces, their people and their cooking styles that rolled out some of the most popular Chinese dishes,8221; she says.

A culinary travelogue, her nine-part series will showcase traditional cooking styles and Kwong will also cook her version of the dish in each episode, 8220;which will be tempered to suit a global audience8221;. 8220;Not all Chinese spices are available across the globe. I usually replace herbs according to what is available,8221; adds Kwong, who has authored six cookbooks, including My China: Stories and Recipes from My Homeland 2008. While she8217;s never travelled to India, Kwong is appreciative of Indian cooking. 8220;Indians, like Chinese, prefer family-style eating where individuals scoop out portions of the dish from one big bowl. Food to us is not just about gastronomy, but involves family and social interaction,8221; she signs off.

Kylie Kwong: My China premiers today on Discovery Travel 038; Living and will be aired every Tuesday
