Pressuring the Central Government to seek the release of Mumbai resident Roshan Jamal Khan, detained in Spain in connection with a suspected terror plot, his wife has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene in the matter, and also sought an early personal meeting.
Khan, 50, has been detained by Spanish authorities along with nine Pakistani men since January 19, after they were picked up in an early morning raid on a mosque in Barcelona.
Although Indian security agencies have given a report saying there is “nothing adverse” against the boxing enthusiast from Mumbai’s St Xavier’s College, there has been no response from Spain about his status.
In a letter to Singh, a copy of which is with The Indian Express, Khan’s wife Farida has said that “he has neither been produced in a court nor released from last 67 days, which is a clear violation of human rights”. “My husband is a proud and faithful Indian and has never been involved in any anti-social activities. After checking his records, top investigation agencies such as CBI and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have given clean chit to him,” she wrote in the letter, requesting the Government to intervene and secure her husband’s freedom.
