CHANDIGARH, Sept 19: The week-long Ganesh Utsav celebrations in the city, organised by the Maharastra Mandal, concluded with Ganpati visarjan in the Ghaggar river, here today.

About 100 people formed a part of the procession in which the idol of Ganesh was taken on a mini-truck from the Maharasta Bhawan in Sector 19 to the Ghaggar river. Before that, Puja was done at the bhawan itself and Maha Prasad Langar was organised.

According to the spokesman of the Mandal, the theme behind the visarjan is to maintain the sanctity of the idol. The week long celebrations included dance performances by the Raj Kala Mandir, group songs by students of the blind school, Sector 26, variety programmes, games, competitions of Rangoli and drawing. A Marathi play on inter-cast marriage was also presented.
