“The LDF,which raised fingers at everyone else, accusing them of corruption, itself was steeped in corruption, embroiled in scam after scam,” she said. “The mafia of liquor, lottery and real estate agents were ruling the state for the last five years. Political violence and atrocities against women had taken place under the LDF regime,” she said, adding the state government had taken credit for some schemes launched by the UPA.

Sonia Gandhi said the CPM had always been against innovation, but the Congress believed in moving ahead and changing according to the needs of time without compromising on its principles.

“Its main principle is that the benefits of development should be equitably distributed among all sections of people,” she said. The CPM rule had stymied growth in all sectors in the state, while other South Indian cities surged ahead in development, she said.
