Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Thursday said it was Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar who had first mooted the two-nation theory later adopted by Mohammed Ali Jinnah. The term ‘Hindutva’ too had been coined by Savarkar,he said, adding it had nothing to do with religion as he was an atheist.

“It is a historical fact that it was Veer Savarkar who first mooted the two-nation theory, which was later adopted by Jinnah,” Singh told reporters.

“Savarkar was a declared atheist. He was the first to coin the word Hindutva, which had nothing to do with religion. This was his extreme ideology. Every good Muslim or Hindu who believes in religion will never have an extreme ideology,” he said. Singh pointed out that Jinnah too was a non-believer.
