TSD staffer seeks bail in DRI case

Das,who has been in custody since last year, has asked the AFT to intervene and grant him bail.

The head clerk of the controversial Military Intelligence MI unit,Technical Support Division TSD,who was arrested last year in an operation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence DRI while he was allegedly attempting to sell classified information to an ISI operative, has applied for bail and has claimed that he is being implicated on false charges.

Havildar Sham Das,who faced a court of inquiry after he was caught in April last year while reportedly handing over a CD and pen drive with highly classified information on the functioning of the TSD,has claimed in his plea before the Armed Forces Tribunal AFT that he is a victim of circumstances and was wrongly implicated by the DRI officials.

Das,who has been in custody since last year, has asked the AFT to intervene and grant him bail.

The court of inquiry into the matter concluded on October 16,and the Army is now framing charges to initiate court-martial proceedings against Das.

The principal bench of the AFT has admitted the plea and has asked the Army to file a reply. The next hearing is scheduled for November 21.
