Mrs And Mr Sharma Allahabadwale
Monday 8211; Thursday,9.30 pm,SAB TV
Dhristidhyumna Sarva Prasad Sharma, his wife, sister and son have just arrived in Mumbai on transfer from Allahabad. Mrs And Mr Sharma,Allahabadwale is about their bitter sweet experiences in the big bad city of dreams.
Right from the time they step out of the station to the time they land at their rented apartment, the Sharmas get a good taste of Mumbai, from coolies who con them to a noble Sardar cabbie who doesnt take them for a ride to a pushy tenant and her four unruly kids who refuse to leave the Sharmas at peace, from an estate agent who likes his hands greased for everything the Sharmas ask for to a gas cylinder wala who sells it in black prompting Mr Sharma to ask,Arre, hamare yahan toh cylinder laal hota hai. If you find this funny, then probably the show is for you. We know every episode is going to be a case of a city losing its values versus small town innocence. But sorry, boss!
It didnt work for us simply because the cliché-ridden situations are not funny to say the least 8211; we have seen the corrupt babus before 8211; and the performances by the lead cast do not help either. If Rajesh Kumar as mammas boy Rasesh still has us in splits in the umpteenth rerun of Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai, then as the safari suit clad Mr Sharma with oiled hair and pencil thin moustache,he just doesnt cut the ice. Divyanka Tripathi seems to be so happy to have got the role of Mrs Sharma that her face is constantly dancing and she moves around with a slouch. The shimmering saris and that hideous red flower in her hair which Mr Sharma lovingly tucks in her hair every morning add to our woes. For her, comedy is clearly a big effort and it shows.
Wish these Sharmas had not left Allahabad
Verdict: Meet the Sharmas at your own will.
