Actors Ajay Devgn,Prakash Raj and director Rohit Shetty recently apologised to the people of Karnataka for the offensive statements on Kannadigas made in their film Singham. Pro-Kannada organisations held protests against the screening demanding the deletion of a dialogue from the film,as it has hurt the emotions of Kannadigas. Even the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce supported the protestors who wanted the scenes that showed Kannadigas in poor light to be removed from all prints.

Court order

The Allahabad High Court,on July 25,sought counter-affidavits from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry,Censor Board,Aamir Khan’s production company and the song writer who had penned the D K Bose number,allegedly containing obscene lyrics,in the recently-released Delhi Belly. The order was passed by a Division Bench on a PIL filed by Saumitra Dwivedi,a law student.

Special award

Amole Gupte’s debut directorial film Stanley Ka Dabba won a special award at the Giffoni Film Festival,one of the largest children’s film fest in Europe. The award in question ‘United Against Injustice: Depends On Me’ has been given by ActionAid,an organisation whose vision is to have a world without poverty. The festival took place in Giffoni Valle Piana,Italy.

Stating facts

Farhan Akhtar has clarified that he has been asked to join an Advisory Board for cultural activities of theTrinamool Congress Youth wing and not become a member of the political party per se. The All India Trinamool Yuva Committee is headed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s 24-year-old nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Farhan Akhtar,alongwith tennis star Leander Paes and Sam Pitroda,who are also members,would guide the youth wing of Trinamool Congress.
