The Everest Rush

Three teams from India scaled Mount Everest on Saturday,each on a special mission

ALL-CIVILIAN team: Eight members of Punes Giripremi Mountaineering Institute became Indias largest all-civilian team to climb Everest. Krishna Dhokle,Tekraj Adhikari,Rupesh Khopde,Ashish Mane,Rahul Yelange,Chetan Ketkar,Prasad Joshi and Surendra Jalihal quit their regular jobs to start training a year ago.

RECORD BID: A six-member team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police scaled Everest and is now attempting a world record by skiing down from the Chinese side of the mountain considered to be a tougher route than the one from Nepal. The team,led by R S Sonal,has Pradeep Kumar Negi,Pasing Sherpa,Devendra Singh,Virendra Singh and Krishna Prasad Gurung as other members.

FITTING TRIBUTE: Four members of mountaineering club Sagarmatha Giryarohan Sanstha from Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune district,on scaling the Everest,dedicated it to team member Ramesh Gulave,who died of a stroke on April 28. The four are Shrihari Tapkir,Sagar Palkar,Anand Bonsode and Balaji Mane. Gulaves father Narad said,This achievement is the best tribute to my son.
