Team Anna plans Muslim rally in UP

India Against Corruption will hold a Muslim rally in Lucknow in the first week of December to counter the propaganda that it is a front for the RSS and BJP

India Against Corruption (IAC) will hold a Muslim rally in Lucknow in the first week of December to counter the propaganda that it is a front for the RSS and BJP. The decision was taken at a meeting Arvind Kejriwal held with some Muslim leaders here on Monday.

Mufti Shamoon Qasmi,IAC core committee member, said they expected at least 15,000 people to attend the rally. Seeking the support of the minority community, the IAC banners and pamphlets will be in Urdu.

Many prominent Muslims leaders and clergy who were invited by Kejriwal, however, stayed away from the meeting. These included Shia leader and All India Muslim Personal Law Board vice-president Maulana Kalbe Sadiq,Maulana Fazlur Rehman Waizi and Zafaryab Jilani.

Later,Kejriwal visited Maulana Sadiq at his residence. After the meeting,Sadiq said he would support the anti-corruption movement till the time it did not deviate from its goal.

Kejriwal also met a small group of Muslim representatives, including All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board president Shaista Amber. Kejriwal asked them to present their concerns about the movement. Maulana Mahali said the movement would lose its impact if it included tainted people. Some also said Muslims had reservations against the use of Vande Mataram slogan by the IAC.

Kejriwal said some people were trying to link the IAC movement with communal forces. He further said both RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh were together in maligning Anna Hazare’s

image.

He said the media had widely reported Anna Hazare’s praise for development in Gujarat but was silent on his criticism of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

When asked about the IAC’s attack on the Congress,Kejriwal said the organisation wanted the Jan Lokpal Bill to be passed in Parliament which only the Congress could do.

Kejriwal said the IAC movement would not enter into active politics and the day it became communal,he would desert it.
