Tata Motors today said it will focus on selling SUVs in North India,as this segment in the region grew by nearly 60 per cent compared to 30 per cent across the country in last six months.
We are focusing a lot (on selling SUVs in north) as a lot of people here are procuring it, the company’s President (Passenger Car) Ranjit Yadav said.
Sales of SUVs in Punjab,Haryana,Jammu and Kashmir,Himachal Pradesh and UT Chandigarh grew by 58 per cent in last six months,which is almost double of the sales growth nationwide during the same period.
The market size of SUVs in the country is pegged at 40,000 units a month.
However,he said Tata Motors posted a growth of 6-7 per cent in passenger car business in last six months. We grew by 6-7 per cent in last six months, he said,but did not give any sales projection for the current fiscal.
Yadav added that the passenger car industry is expected to grow by 2-4 per cent in current fiscal. There are some challenges (being faced by the industry) and this year is the difficult year for car manufacturers, he said.
High interest rates are one of the reasons for impacting the demand as 80 per cent car sales are financed,he said.
