The film is a romantic comedy that throws light on the the age-old Indian system of arranged marriages wherein parents choose their childrens’ life-partner.

Manu (R Madhavan),a Non-Resident Indian doctor from London,is one of the few victims of this system. Manu’s parents want him to settle for a small-town homely girl and send him to India to meet Tanu (Kangna Ranaut) after they come across her profile in a matrimonial classified ad.

But,Tanu is a far cry from the small-town girls that Manu’s parents have come across. Hailing from Kanpur,Tanu is an extrovert, who loves to ride bikes, sports a tattoo and drinks neat shots. It’s love at first sight for Manu, who falls for Tanu.

Totally against the idea of an arranged marriage Tanu tries her best to dissuade Manu from choosing her as his bride.

Director Anand Rai says: Even though the film is set in a small town,it portrays the inherent innocence of Indians.

Kangna Ranaut plays a pataka in the film. She’s a rebellious middle-class girl from Kanpur. Kangna had put on weight during the shooting of Tanu Weds Manu and now that we’re promoting the film,I would like her to maintain that weight. It’s important that people

identify with her character during the promotions.

The Buzz

Kangna Ranaut has shed her neurotic on-screen image for a bubbly,free-spirited and bindass character in this film. The actress has also dressed up like a man for a song sequence that is reportedly inspired from the super-hit number Kajra mohabbatwala from the 1968 film Kismet.
